Orthodox Church serving Sheffield
Welcome to the Community of Saint Silouan and All Saints of Britain & Ireland
Saint Silouan was a modern-day elder who has much to teach us about living the Christian life today. Our co-patrons are all the Saints who shone forth in the islands of Great Britain and Ireland.
You're welcome to browse this site to find out more about us. Or if you have any questions or prayer requests, then please contact us directly:

Meeting Together
We usually meet on the first and third Sunday and fourth Saturday of every month.
On occasional evenings, we also meet to pray specific services, akathists or canons. Anyone is welcome to join us and pray for specific needs or people. You may also send names to be commemorated during these prayers.
See below for our latest activities and news:

![🍀🌹 FESTIVAL of ALL SAINTS of BRITAIN & IRELAND (Sat 28th to Sun 29th June) 🌹🍀
We have services on Saturday evening (28th June) and Sunday morning (29th June) in honour of our co-patrons: the Saints of these Isles. [All Saints of Britain & Ireland (Все святые Великобритании и Ирландии)]
There are a number of significant British Saints commemorated in the weeks leading up to the 29th June, including Ss Mellangell, Brendan the Voyager, Augustine and Dunstan of Canterbury, Columba of Iona, as well as Saints not specifically "local" but still having associations with Britain and the local area (e.g. Ss Dymphna, Constantine and Helen).
We will be posting about these saints under the hashtag: #AllSaintsGBI over the coming weeks.
"Today the choirs of the saints who have pleased God in the Isles stand forth in the Church and unseen pray to God for us. With them the angels give glory; and all the saints of the Church of Christ make glad with them, and all together they beseech the Pre-Eternal God for us."](https://scontent-sea5-1.cdninstagram.com/v/t39.30808-6/501524028_1114540334034244_3265694026574858797_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_e35_tt6&_nc_cat=111&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=18de74&_nc_ohc=cq8Jc212yYYQ7kNvwGDyMwo&_nc_oc=AdmjjPw-AoSTgNPhKKv4oZz1yfTHTW0xHeRGaEQ2aChKkse7iOISO_J6Xo_az5Ay9lU&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-sea5-1.cdninstagram.com&edm=ANo9K5cEAAAA&_nc_gid=cHlTexX8WHCFJ03d6Ak92A&oh=00_AfTt2xaNB5CUBIjMDTCuuvXCLJ3a3HKEftenWL9H5NkmFw&oe=68766F61)

![Abba Athanasius says: "Be tortured by your conscience, die to sin, mortify your earthly members, and you will be a martyr in accordance with your wishes. The martyrs fought with emperors and princes; you have the king of sins--the devil and the demonic princes. Before, there were idols, pagan temples, and those who offer sacrifice to the idols. And now, they exist as thoughts in the soul. He who is a slave to debauchery worships the idol of Aphrodite [Venus]. He who becomes angry and enraged worships the idol of Ares [Mars]. He who is avaricious and ignores the pain and misery of his neighbour worships the idol Hermes [Mercury]. If you refrain from all of this and preserve yourself from passions, you have overcome idols, you have rejected an evil belief and have become a martyr for the true Faith." Therefore, a man need not especially yearn for persecution and martyrdom. Everyone in every age can endure martyrdom for the sake of Christ and His Gospel.

![☦️ MID-PENTECOST [Преполовение Пятидесятницы] ☦️
~At Mid-feast give Thou my thirsty soul to drink of the waters of piety;
For Thou, O Saviour, didst cry out to all:
Whosoever is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
Wherefore, O Well-spring of life, Christ our God, glory be to Thee. ~
On the Wednesday of the Paralytic, we celebrate the Feast of Mid-Pentecost. We have already reached the midpoint of the fifty days between Pascha and Pentecost, and the Church has appointed this present feast as a bond between the two great feasts, thereby uniting, as it were, the two into one, and partaking of the grace of them both. The coming Sunday we will remember the encounter of Jesus Christ with the Samaritan woman (Photini / Svetlana) at St Jacob's Well, and water is associated with this Sunday and the previous Sunday of the paralytic man.
Water also represents the Holy Spirit, Who descended upon the disciples at Pentecost, and the hymns for this day make many allusions to water.
Therefore, it is a practice to bless water - particularly wells and streams - on this day. As the Mid-Feast lasts for 8 days, the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman is part of Mid-Pentecost, and Fr Jonathan will bless water after the Liturgy. Please bring your own bottles and receive Holy Water.
Blessed feast! !["We waited, and at last our expectations were fulfilled. When [we] sang "Christ is risen", a heavy burden fell from our souls. We felt as if we also had been raised from the dead. All at once, from all around, the same cry resounded like the noise of many waters. "Christ is risen" sang each in his own tongue, in his own melody. . . . Coming out from the service at dawn, we began to regard everything in the light of the glory of Christ's Resurrection, and all appeared different from what it had yesterday; everything seemed better, more expressive, more glorious. Only in the light of the Resurrection does life receive meaning."
